Dr. Missimer’s journey into the health and wellness field began after her brother passed away from cancer. She was driven by the purpose he instilled in her – to change lives and help people never take their health and life for granted. However, her journey took a significant turn when she herself was diagnosed with stage 3 liposarcoma. This experience led Dr. Missimer to explore the impact of trauma and nervous system regulation. What she discovered led to her vision for the Movement Paradigm Integrative Health Center. Her experience with functional medicine post-cancer treatment made her realize the importance of a holistic approach to patient care that truly meets patients where they are and considers all aspects of their health. This realization also led Dr. Missimer to pursue certification with the Institute of Functional Medicine, making her one of only 2000 certified practitioners globally.
Now overseeing her team at The Movement Paradigm, Dr. Missimer develops innovative treatment approaches, educates professional peers in her area, and ensures exceptional experiences. As a practitioner, she identifies and addresses the root causes of chronic health issues, provides personalized and comprehensive care, and empowers individuals to take control of their health. Dr. Missimer excels in movement from the ground up through barefoot science, and has taught these techniques to professionals nationwide through EBFA Global. She is also a nervous system expert and is highly skilled in functional medicine and nutrition. Furthermore, Dr. Missimer teaches a mentorship program for medical professionals in functional medicine.
Dr. Missimer’s educational background includes an undergraduate degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Delaware, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Neumann University, and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Mindfulness from West Chester University. She is deeply passionate about continuous learning and sharing knowledge with others while striving to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of her patients and the broader community. Her certifications include but are not limited to: Functional Movement Screen Level 2, SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) Level 2, Functional Movement Techniques (FMT) Level 2, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Neurokinetic Therapy Level 2, Master Instructor for EBFA Global, Barefoot Rehabilitation Specialist, and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). Dr. Missimer also wrote a book called “Rise Up,” which inspires and empowers people to heal.
Personally, Dr. Missimer believes that movement is truly what has helped her heal through some of life’s biggest challenges. She has participated in Miss Fitness and Miss Figure America, weight training, ballroom dancing, kettlebell classes, rock climbing, parkour, and even trained for American Ninja Warrior while undergoing cancer treatment. More recently, Dr. Missimer has become an avid weightlifter, competitive powerlifter, and aerialist. She is also a world traveler alongside her Mom, who is also her best friend. They have completed 20 trips together since her brother passed away.
Dr. Missimer has an amazing husband, John, who married her two months after she was diagnosed with cancer. She also has a wonderful 18-year-old stepson, Kolby. They spend their summers boating and soaking up the sun.
